Who Am I and what’s it all about?
I am from the Star Wars generation. I was 7 when I first saw Star Wars in the cinema and everything was different from then on, I wanted to be Han Solo and fly a spaceship. I was gutted when I found out the UK didn't’t have a space program and would not be able to become an astronaut. That was beside the point, getting into space wouldn't’t put me into the Star Wars universe as it wasn't’ real, but hey I was a kid so what did I know?
I am firstly a Star Wars fan and secondly a collector. I collect mainly production and printed materials from Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. My collection only covers the original trilogy. I did enjoy the prequels but I think it is the re-capturing of my youth, which has always, drawn me back to the original films.
The collecting started from when the first toys came out. I remember having Darth Vader figure and a Storm trooper. I remember buying the Marvel comic each week. I remember buying the blue bubblegum cards.
Sadly around 1988 I sold all my toys, getting older they seemed ‘childish’ to have. My interest waned and life moved on. Around 1995 I started up a web site Kevb’s UK Star Wars collectable's. This continued for a couple of years as I had contacts within Hasbro and the Official UK Star Wars magazine and felt it was more than just a fan-site. Sadly due to personal circumstances I stopped updating and maintaining the site. I continued to collect printed material, my favourite being Japanese magazines, and some of the new toy ranges. I have hunted out Japanese magazines in Junku shops in the back streets of Japan and still know there are some still to get.
Since then I have concentrated on more obscure items and regularly use Ebay to expand my collection. My holy grails are full US/UK press kits in mint condition for Star Wars and ESB .
